The appeal of hardwoods lies in their naturally rich, deep colours that weather over time to develop a beautiful warmth and character. Hardwoods are naturally resistant to fungal growth and offer naturally superior levels of durability and wear resistance, without any additional chemical treatment, making hardwood the ideal material for use in the construction of decking and outdoor furniture and structures. With only nominal care and maintenance with treatment with deck oils such as Hicksons wax coat your hardwood decking will last for years and years.
There are a number of species to choose from and we tend to use Iroko, Ipe, Massaranduba, however we are keen to add to our range of Hardwoods and we are currently investigating other species. Depending on the final design and application of your hardwood decking, we can recommend the right species of timber for you.

Iroko
Iroko is a West African Hardwood that is very durable and
it’s movement in service is small. It’s natural oils make it a stable,
durable exterior timber ideal for hardwood decking. It is a light brown in colour.
Ipe (pronounced "Ee-Pay")
Ipe is an environmentally responsible choice which naturally resists rot,
decay, insects, and mold without the use of toxic chemicals used in other decking product and
is naturally fire resistant. Ipe is dark brown in appearance.. Ipe is well known for its
strength and is thought be the one of the hardest woods in the world (strength is three
times harder than oak) and is highly resistant against fungi and termites and other pests.
Massaranduba
Massaranduba is a red / brown hardwood from Brazil, it is extremely
durable but does have moderate movement in service. Although slightly more expensive than
softwood it is definitely a superior alternative.
